Chicken Parmesan Calzone Recipe

The only calzone recipe you'll ever need - is chicken parmesan calzone stuffed with crispy chicken, parmesan, and mozzarella.

The most unique element of this calzone is its pizza-like finish. Of course, it's made like a typical crescent-shaped calzone, but with a layer of mozzarella and sauce covering the outer crust. It gives a chewy texture.

Ingredients

  • 16-20 ounces of pizza dough
  • 6-7 cooked crispy chicken tenders, sliced (I like Tyson crispy chicken strips)
  • 8-ounce bag of shredded mozzarella
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3/4 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • wheat flour for the dough

Instruction

  1. Preheats the oven to 400°F. If using frozen chicken breasts, pre-cook according to package directions. Cut into smaller strips and set aside.
  2. Meanwhile, roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle, similar to a pizza crust.
  3. Select half and spread 1/2 cup of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge. Cover the same half with 1 cup mozzarella, all Parmesan, and chicken tenders. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to the opposite edge to create a crescent shape. Pinch the edges to seal.
  4. Place the calzone on a greased baking sheet and brush the top with melted butter. Using a knife, poke three 1/2-inch slits in the top of the calzone. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove calzones from oven and evenly top with 1/4 cup pizza sauce and about 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese (leaving 1-inch crust around edges). Bake for another 10 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-7 minutes before slicing and serving.
